12 Angry Men - Our First School Production - Tickets on Sale Now
Tickets are now on sale for our first ever school production, 12 Angry Men, on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th July, 6pm. Tickets available from Ms Maltby or simply call the school on 020 8299 5300.
Boys have been working for weeks on acting, costumes, lighting and sound, as you can see from these rehearsal pictures. “It’s been really exciting to see the boys bring the play to life,” said Ms Warburton, Director of Performing Arts, who’s co-directed the play along with Ms Avloniti, Strand leader of Art.
“In all, 21 boys are taking part either as cast or crew. Doing this play has been a bit of a dream of mine ever since I became a teacher. It’s a simple set, one room, 12 actors with a simple question: is the defendant guilty?”
For the audition, Leon (above left) memorised a monologue. “I thought about how I could use drama techniques, such as facial expressions, to improve on what I’m going to do,” he says. Daniel (right) says he is looking forward to the opening night but admits he’ll be nervous. “It feels quite surreal,” he says. “It will be very nerve-wracking because it’s the debut play for the school but it’s going to be an experience. It something quite big to actually be involved in and something we should really appreciate.”
The technical team are all students too, including lighting and sound. “Lighting is really important,” says Samuel (above), Year 9. “It’s one of my passions. It helps the audience absorb the play because you can use lighting to emphasise certain aspects.” But he said he won’t be too nervous on the night. “I know what I am doing, definitely!” Boys even composed all the music used in the performance.
The play is based on the 1957 film about a jury that is asked to decide whether a young man murdered his father. “My dad showed me the film when I was a child and I’ve always loved it,” said Ms Warburton.
