Theatre Peckham Visit for Renaissance Day
Theatre Peckham visited HBAED recently for the first Renaissance Day of the year. The day commenced with a lively presentation to the whole of Year 9, celebrating the origins of renaissance theatre. This included a tense Who wants to be a Millionaire-style quiz, which provided students with a valuable insight into Britain’s theatrical legacy.
Students were treated to a performance of a scene from Robin Hood, Theatre Peckham’s Christmas show. Actors Malachi Green (Robin Hood) and Ayanna Christie-Brown (Maid Marian) gave an amazing performance with many students particularly impressed by the “upbeat” and “feisty” rendition of the children’s classic.
Life goals
Malachi’s message during the Q&A session was one that has resonated far beyond their visit. “I was really inspired by what Malachi said about not letting people’s opinions get in the way of pursuing my goals in life,” said Sherif.
Year 9 Performance Arts students embraced the challenge of the drama workshops. “We learnt new ways to communicate with our bodies and the importance of using the space,” said Daniel. “It was quite energising creating tableaus on abstract ideas, such as love and power, in different group sizes. The tutor’s feedback on our work has motivated me to continue to develop my performance skills.”
Thank you to Theatre Peckham for a really engaging, inspiring visit!
